blacksmiths
The blacksmiths will ‘strike while the iron is hot’ displaying some of the processes used to forge red hot steel into a large variety of useful items and artworks.
A team of blacksmiths from the Artist Blacksmiths Association of NSW, led by Colin Dray and Lyle Brittain, will again be demonstrating their craft at the Bellingen Show this year.
A portable workshop of anvils, forges, vices, hammers and tongs will be set up on both days of the Show.
Look out for their new location near the Schools’ Display shed!
Garden Gate Project
The blacksmith’ project for this year’s Show will be a decorative garden gate, which will be a work in progress over the weekend.
The gate design incorporates traditional and contemporary forging of ironwork. Visitors can watch demonstrations of how the decorative elements are ‘forged by fire’ on the anvil and eventually hot riveted together.
peace nails
May is the anniversary of the 80th year since the end of World War Two. To celebrate and encourage World Peace, the blacksmiths will be forging large ‘Peace Nails’ . Each nail is individually numbered and stamped with a Peace Dove and the maker’s marks.
