All Horse Events Cancelled

As a result of the heavy rain and flooding over recent weeks the show committee very much regrets to announce that they need to cancel all horse events for the 2022 Show. Access to parking and camping, as well as the poor state of the horse arena, makes it unsafe to proceed.

We are looking at rescheduling the horse event to early September if the weather and grounds improve.

Please look at a separate announcement tomorrow regarding any 123Tix payments.

Free Admission to the Show

The Show committee has made the decision to offer free admission to the Show, as we are unable to offer our normal full range of events and activities. Donations will be gratefully accepted at the gate.

Due to the condition of the showground after the recent floods and continued rain, and the high risk of injury to riders and horses, the horse events have been postponed to later in the year.

The cattle section will be greatly reduced although still a great event, with 15 head of cattle being presented by Bellingen High School students for judging on Saturday.

The Showman’s Guild are unable to bring any rides to our Show this year as they cannot afford the insurance.

Trade and food stalls will be available as usual.

We will still have some great events at the Show. Our main pavilion will be full of entries, the Mantova art show and photography will be on display, our new venture the Artisan Tent will be hosting demonstrations of crafts throughout the weekend. Come along and see how potters and ceramicists, weavers, spinners, felters, printmakers and leadlighters practice their craft. Learn about beekeeping. Buy some of the crafted goods.

Celebrity chef Lindey Milan, supported by local chef Mitch Grady will be cooking up a storm in the Luncheon Booth with the chef’s table lunch being held on Sunday. You can win a seat at Lyndey’s chef’s table lunch by buying a $5 ticket in the sweep. Ten lucky winners!

The Poultry Pavillion will be showing birds and the Blacksmiths will be shaping metal. There will be slot cars, mini golf, face painting, the petting zoo and Steve’s reptile world, as well as some new entertainment with hula hoops and giant bubbles.

The schools and other local groups will be performing in the entertainment tent, along with a diversity of musical ensembles.

Back Track Dogs will perform on Saturday afternoon, and of course, there is our iconic Mongrel Dog Show on Sunday.

The Fun Run is still on Sunday morning but a decision about the Woodchop, the Partner Carrying and the Young Farmer Challenge will be made closer to the weekend based on how much more rain we receive and the condition of the ground. Our first concern has to be for the safety of our competitors.

At this stage it is unlikely that we will be able to use the Black Street paddock for parking. We are exploring options to provide a shuttle bus between town and the Showground.

Any enquiries please email or phone Gillian on 0419 124 368.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
See you at the Show!

Show Jumping Cancelled

The show committee very much regret to announce that they will have to cancel the Show Jumping at our show next week.

Due to flooding over the last two weeks the ground has not dried out enough to hold this event safely.

We look forward to welcoming the Show jumpers back at our 2023 show.

Cattle Judging Cancelled

As a result of the heavy rain and flooding over recent months cattle in this area are generally in poor condition and many producers have made the decision not to show their stock at the Bellingen Show in 2022. The rain has also caused major issues in relation to ground conditions at the Bellingen Showground.

Given this situation the Show Committee has made the decision that the both the Dairy and Cattle judging will not be run this year.

The Show Committee is aware of the impact this decision will have on the schools component of the competition. So we are pleased to announce that special arrangements have been put in place to enable Bellingen High School students to show their cattle at the show. This “mini” cattle show will be organised by Stephen Boyd and Peter Fox.

The stock will be trucked to the Showgrounds on Friday 20th and will be returned to the school on Saturday 21st May. There will be a barbecue for the Bellingen High School Students on the Friday night and competition and judging will take place on Saturday.

This has been a most unusual year and the Show Committee was very reluctant to take this difficult decision. We are delighted that the Bellingen High School cattle will be on display and that the local students will still have opportunity to be part of their annual show.

Bellingen Show calls for volunteers

Media Release

Monday 11 April 2022

We want you! Bellingen Show calls for volunteers.

The Bellinger River Agricultural Show Committee today launched its annual “call for volunteers” campaign six weeks ahead of the Bellingen Show which is taking place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May.

Bellinger River Agricultural Society President Gillian Anderson said, “The Bellingen Show provides something for everyone, for residents and visitors, exhibitors and competitors; it is a special opportunity to be part of a truly community-based event. However, it is only with the support of our volunteers that the Show runs year after year.”

She continued; “This year the Bellingen Show coincides with National Volunteers Week (16-22 May), there’s a delightful sense of serendipity in being able to celebrate our volunteers at the very time they are helping bring the Show to life”.

On Sunday May 1, the Show Committee holds their annual Volunteers Day at the Bellingen Showgrounds. Volunteer Coordinator Lydia Bezeruk explained why; “Volunteering brings people together and it builds communities. Our Volunteers Day is a chance for volunteers and the show committee to come together over lunch to hear what’s in store for the 2022 Show.”

“We’re always delighted to have new volunteers come on board, it’s an excellent way to meet people and get involved in everything from planning the event, to setting up the stalls, marshaling the mongrel dogs or scanning tickets at the gate. There’s such wonderful enthusiasm from our volunteers which brings the show to life, it’s contagious.”

New Artisan Tent added to Bellingen Show attractions

The Bellinger River Agricultural Show Committee has announced a new addition for its 2022 show attractions, the inclusion of a new Artisan Tent.

Bellinger River Agricultural Society President Gillian Anderson said, “Bellingen is renowned as a haven for those interested in creative endeavors so it is fitting to showcase the diverse array of arts and craft practitioners we have in our community.”

“We’re delighted to add the artisan tent to the program and we think the community will love the opportunity to get up close and personal with our talented local makers and producers.” Ms Anderson added.

The artisan tent will host local potters, weavers and spinners, as well as artists working with a variety of materials including mosaics and lead lighting. Throughout the weekend there will be live demonstrations and displays as well as short talks from makers and producers.

The Artisan Tent adds to the Show’s creative program which includes the extensive crafts competition on display in the Pavilion as well as the long running EJ Mantova Memorial Art competition. Known to locals as “The Mantova”, the art competition pays homage to Ernest John Mantova, Bellingen’s first recognized professional artist.

The art competition invites submissions across a variety of mediums including
landscape/seascape, water colour, open, drawing and sculpture. Entries close Friday 29 April with the official opening taking place on Saturday 14th May at 3pm.

The Bellingen Show takes place Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 May. Bellingen Show schedules and entry forms are available from local businesses or from the Bellingen Show website.
