In 2014 the Bellingen Show introduced a new event, the Partner Carry.

The format of this event is based on the Singleton Show’s Australian Wife Carrying Titles. For a history of the Finnish origins of this event see here.

In true Bellingen style we have taken this crowd-pleasing event and put our own spin on it. Two people complete a timed 100m course negotiating four obstacles. One of the couple must be carried by the other for the length of the course.

There are great prizes offered by our sponsors.

There are two classes, mixed gender and same gender. Unlike the Singleton and International events there is no requirement for the carrying partner to be male.

Winners of the mixed gender category at the Bellingen Show will be sponsored to compete at the Singleton Show that conducts the Australian Wife Carrying Titles later in the year.

The winners of that event are given the opportunity to travel to Finland to represent Australia in the World Wife Carrying Titles.

In 2016, the Bellingen Show winners Adrian and Amanda Betts swept up the Australian Championship in Singleton and travelled to Finland to compete in the world title. Adrian and Amanda were looking set to take out the title when, sadly Adrian fell at the last obstacle. He picked Amanda up and crossed the finish line but lost those vital few seconds that meant not winning the title.

Come and have some fun. There is a nominal entry fee ($10 per team) and waiver forms are required to be signed on the day, and a helmet is to be worn by the carried partner. The carried partner must be 18 years old or over and weigh at least 49kg.
